Equine Reproductive Surgery

A two-day English-language course "Reproductive Surgery" takes place in Warendorf-Milte, Germany on Tuesday, September 7th and Wednesday, September 8th, 2021. The practice-oriented course is addressed to colleagues, aiming to deepen their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in equine reproductive tract surgery.

On Tuesday, the use of laparoscopy for ovariectomy and cryptorchidectomy, blocked oviducts, postpartum haemorrhage and uteropexy is presented in practice-oriented lectures.  In the session "Flops, Failures and Fumbles", the internationally recognized and well-experienced speakers report on complications of castration. In the afternoon, lectures focus on uterine torsion, caesarean section, urinary bladder and uterine prolapse and surgery of the female perineum and rectal tears. A discussion of clnical cases from the entire spectrum of surgery of the reproductive tract closes the first day of the seminar.

On Wednesday, practical hands-on courses in small groups allow demonstration and the practical implementation of laparoscopic techniques (ovariectomy, cryptorchidectomy) and surgery of the female external genitalia (perineoplasty, third-degree perinael lacerations, rectovestibular fistula) on a teaching model ("black box") and patients.


A visit of the State Stud Warendorf and course dinner in the mediveal town Warendorf are planned as a social highlight on Tuesday night.

Advanced Equine Reproduction

A two-day course "Advanced Equine Reproduction" (English) will take place in Warendorf-Milte, Germany on Thursday, September 9th and Friday, September 10th, 2021. The practice-oriented course is addressed to colleagues, aiming to deepen their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in equine reproduction.

On Thursday, lectures focus on "The problem mare", including current recommendations for management of the barren mare, endometritis, hysteroscopy, ozone therapy and fungal infection,as well as management for articifial insemination with fresh and frozen semen. Furthermore, ovarian tumors and the "moody mare" and suppression of oestrous behaviour are presented in practice-oriented lectures.

Clinical cases from the entire spectrum of equine reproduction allow discussions in small groups, supporting the implementation of diagnostic and therapeutic options in the participant's daily practice.

Lectures on Friday morning emphasize "The pregnant mare"  including fetal sexing, the management of twin and high risk pregnancy, prepartum emergencies, dystocia and the management of the postpartum mare. Furthermore internationally recognized and well-experienced speakers discuss the advantages and disadvantages of covering mares in the foal heat.

In the wetlabs on Friday afternoon, the problem mare (uterine problems and ovarian disorders), hysteroscopy, fetal sexing and monitoring of the high-risk pregnancy are practiced on patients in small groups.

A visit to the European Dressage Championships in nearby Hagen is planned as a special socializing highlight, (presuming Corona Protection Rules allow spectators at equestrian events in September).
